Herbicides

Glyphosate (Roundup): kills all plants but doesn’t sterilize soil

    Fence lines

May cause Parkinsons, so use PPE

2-4-D + surfactant: (Kills wide-bladed plants & grasses)

    blackberry vines

    Yarrow and Queen Anne’s lace

    Most weeds

Pasture Pro: (stronger):

    Sericea Lespedeza

Bad Side of Spraying Herbicides

Don’t spray your entire pasture with herbicides! Why?

It covers the good grass as well as the weeds (your animals are eating it)

You can smell it for up to 2 weeks (what does that imply?)

It’s going in your lungs and bloodstream

I use 3 gallon “backpack” sprayer to spot spray problem areas

What's the Solution for whole pasture???

Grazon

Picloram: systemic herbicide controls a wide range of broad-leaved weeds including “woody” weeds.

Mix it with Granular Fertilizer, which soaks it up without dissolving the granules.

Farm center requires 4T of fertilizer to mix it

    Small pasture?

Grazon comes in 2.5 gallon for $115…so go together with friends.

Buy bagged BALANCED fertilizer. Mix accordingly.

Spread with a lawn fertilizer spreader.

Broadcast with a fertilizer spreader a day or 2 before rain.

Rains dissolves it into the dirt, not on plants, then is taken up from roots

As the name implies, your animals can “graze on”!
